The Art Shanty Project transforms the frozen surface of the lake into a creative community space that is part art gallery, part art residency and part social experiment. It’s goal is to show that unregulated public space can be used as a challenging artistic environment to expand notions of what art can be.
The project’s basic structure is 20 Art Shanties built by competing teams. For four weeks artists produce work, offer free arts programming and build a sense of community on the lake. For more information, visit http://artshanties.com.
